White House Issues Executive Order on AI Safety and Security
President Smith has signed an executive order establishing new standards for AI safety and security across federal agencies. The order requires agencies to implement risk management frameworks, conduct rigorous testing of AI systems before deployment, and establish clear lines of accountability. Federal contractors will need to certify compliance with these standards for AI-related government projects. The order also creates a new AI Safety and Security Board tasked with developing best practices and coordinating cross-agency efforts. Industry groups have generally welcomed the move, though some have called for more specific guidance on technical implementation.
